Greenhills club spreads the word about bowls

-

GREENHILLS Bowls Club gave a demonstration in St Pauls School in Rathmullen last Tuesday as part of an ongoing campaign to promote the game to juvenile members.

The club want to break the traditional stereotypes and encourage more young people to take up the sport, as a way of keeping fit, being active and making friends.

The juvenile section is a growing part of the club since its introduction four years ago. Juveniles meet every Tuesday night with training and coaching as well as a couple of games taking place within the hour and a quarter time slot.

St Paul’s principal Mary Stephenson felt the demonstration was a novel and fun experience suitable for all ages and abilities and thanked the club mentors who gave of their time to show their creative skills to the students who got great enjoyment from the experience.

Club vice chairman Alan Thornberry thanked Principal Mary Stephenson and teachers Bryan Curry, Shane Barrett and Mr O’Connell for allowing the club to demonstrate their bowling skills to the students and for their hospitality. He also thanked his fellow mentors Val McGuire, Peter Woods and juvenile office Tom Devin for their help.

On the club front, members are reminded that the summer league doubles will commence on June 14th. Players are asked to put their names forward. The draw will take place every Thursday at 8.30pm sharp for partners.

The club would like to extend its sympathy to the family and friends of the late Ettie Tierney and the late Una Clarke, Nay they rest in peace.

Time of play: Juveniles - Tuesday 7-8.15pm; Seniors - Tuesday and Thursday 8.15-10.30pm.
