WITH teams still out on the course playing late on Sunday night the results of the weekend 3 Person Club Classic will have to wait for next week’s paper. The course was in superb order in the warm welcome sunshine with everyone enjoying their golf with the stableford format with one score to count over the front 9 holes and 2 scores to count over the back 9 holes going down particular­ly well with the golfers.

The GUI teams played off the White Markers with their longest drives at holes 5 &18 with the Non GUI teams playing off the Green Markers with their longest drive holes at 3 & 17. There were 6 Nearest the Pin Meal for 2 prizes on offer at all of the Par 3’s on the course. DUNDALK

ALL Ireland Fourball managers Frank Byrne and Larry Soraghan will be well pleased with the results of the final competitio­n of open week when the overall prize was decided on countback between two members of their panel.

Peter O’Brien (15), who has been in tremendous form for the team on their march to the last 16 in Leinster, took the honours after he and Gerry McDermott (17) shot 39pts on a day when a swirling breeze, afternoon rain showers and lightning greens made for testing conditions.

O’Brien shot 22pts on the back nine against McDermott’s 18 with Alan Hurley (5) finishing in third place on 38pts.

Open Week was a great success with large entries in all competitio­ns and the club would thank those businesses who sponsored events for their generous support.

Austin Shaw (9) has been in fine form all year and on Saturday he teamed up with Vincent Conolon (6) to take the Open Fourball with a score of 46pts which was four better than Ciaran Sheridan and Damien English (10).

On Thursday, Shaw had been part of a team that included Jim Caraher (8), Ciaran Rafferty (17) and Greenore’s D McArdle (16) which came second in the Four Man Team event with 89pts, one less than the 90pts put together by Willie McKeever (16), John P Casey (16), John McKeever (12) and Greenore’s M Coburn (18).

Shaw’s third prize of the week came in Monday’s Open Singles Stableford when he shot 36pts to take the Seniors Prize while Ciaran Dunne, another player who has featured a lot among the prizes this year, took the overall victory with 39pts. That was two better than Conor Hackett (12) and George Rogers (19).

Ultan Gaughran (7) won Wednesday’s Open Singles Stableford with 38pts which was one better than Darren Myles (6) with Neal MacKell (3) following up his Junior Cup win by taking the gross prize with 33pts.

DUNDALK LADIES

THE Open Two Lady team event was played on 22nd May. It was kindly sponsored by Colorcode Hairdressi­ng.

The winning team was from Balbriggan who had a fantastic score on 47pts.

Well done to the visiting ladies. Bernie Prendergas­t and her sister Roasleen from Newlands were also in the winning enclosure. It is lovely to see visiting ladies enjoying Dundalk Golf Club. It is in beautiful condition thanks to Damien and his team.

Congratula­tions to all the winners. At the presentati­on evening Lady Captain Pat thanked the Sponsors Jenny and Claire from Colorcode for their sponsorshi­p and their continued support of the ladies in Dundalk Golf Club.
