Bettystown part of review into park and ride facilities in Meath

-

THE prospect of Bettystown getting pay parking or restricted two-hour only parking is highly unlikely, the recent area council meeting heard.

The parking situation in the town was highlighted by Cllr Tom Kelly who said ‘something needed to be done’ about the situation.

‘ There is also the problem about cars parking on the beach,’ he added.

Dara McGowan from Meath CC said that pay parking would need bye-laws, wardens and machines and ‘ that’s not an option in smaller towns.’

He said there were two-hour limits but again, this was an issue with enforcement.

‘ That’s down to garda resources or a warden travelling around the place and there’s no provision for it.’

At present, there is review of park and ride facilities in the county for commuter towns and Bettystown was being considered for it.

Cllr Kelly said there was a parking issue at Relish as people were parking all day at the Anchorage.

He said people were finding it hard to get out of estates in the area.

Cllr Eimear Ferguson added that cars were parking on the grass when collecting from Colaiste na hInse and it was causing an issue for residents.

She said words had been exchanged between the residents and those parking.

‘We tried to solve one problem and created another,’ she added.

Engineer Christy Clarke said that tickets had been issued but he didn’t know what the answer was.

‘If we put double yellow lines down that will impact on the doctor’s surgery,’ he explained.
