Ordination of Terence Kane

REV. Terence Kane, youngest son of Mr and Mrs. Matthew Kane, George’s Street, Drogheda, was ordained to the priesthood at a ceremony in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow on Saturday last. Presiding prelate was Most Rev. Dr. Patrick Lennon, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, while also present was Monsignor Patrick O’Connor, of the Diocese of Atlanta where the newly ordained priest will minister.
Mgr. Henry Laverty, P.P., V.G., St. Peter’s travelled from Drogheda for the ceremonies while, from Atlanta, came Rev. John Kieran, a native of Ashville. Dunleer.
These clergy, together with Sr. M Joachim, M.M.M., Drogheda; Fr. Kane’s two sisters . Mother M. Joachim, Poor Clare Convent, Newry, and Sr. M. Pius, Presentation Convent, Limerick, and other members of his family later attended a reception in the Royal Hotel. Carlow.
In the evening Fr. Kane returned Drogheda, and, in Georges Street which was soecially decorated for the occasion with banners and bunting, he was warmly and .affectionately welcomed by his neighbours who had gathered to greet him. He imparted his first priestly blessing to all of these neighbours and thanked them for their most generous expression of welcome arid goodwill. Especially appreciative of the efforts of the reception committee who hod organised the homecoming welcome he thanked each and everyone for their kindness and consideration.
On Sunday, the young priest celebrated his first Mass, at noon, in St. Peter’s Church and was assisted by the Pastor, Mgr. Laverty. Presiding at this Mass was Mgr. O’Connor while also present in the sanctuary were Rev. M. C. Walsh, C.C., Fr. Daly and Fr. Kieran.
At the reception, which followed in the Neptune Hotej, Fr. Kane’s family and relatives were joined by representatives of families in the neighbourhood, by Rev. Bro. M. Ludden, Rev. J. Dillon, Atlanta, and by Mr. Eddie Richardson, Nationalist M.P. for South Armagh, a cousin of Mr. Kane.
These celebrations coincided with the 40th onniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Kane and speakers availed of the opportunity to congratulate them on reaching this milestone
