OUTREACH TO INDIA.

Ten students from St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Newfoundwell, Drogheda are heading off in October 2018, for a visit to an Edmund Rice School called ‘Providence’, situated high up in the Himalayas in Shillong, India. Five of the ten students travelling to India are from our parish and as parishioners you are invited to offer them your support both spiritually and financially. Providence School was founded in 1999 to serve the underprivileged children of Shillong. It was started as an after-school project with four students and today has 250 on its books and eight full-time teachers.

The school provides basic life skills for children who would not normally attend school. The curriculum covers both practical and academic skills – including cooking, plumbing, carpentry, Maths, English and computers - and is based solely on the needs of the children. As most children attending suffer from malnutrition, each child receives a cooked mid-day meal with vitamin additives.

The running costs of the school, including salaries, are met from donations –and two Irish second level schools, St. Joseph’s CBS Secondary in Drogheda and the Abbey CBS in Tipperary support the project. This weekend (June 2nd and 3rd) the students will speak at each Mass; they will also take up a collection after Mass and would appreciate your financial support.
