ISPCC childline call
The Drogheda branch of the ISPCC is recruiting for its Childline service and the next training course is due to start at the end of September.
They recruit volunteers from all over the Louth and Meath area and are eager to add to a fantastic team. They are currently recruiting volunteers for Monday and Tuesday afternoons. The first step in becoming a volunteer is to attend an information evening (on one of a choice of evenings). This is an opportunity for people to come along and hear about the service, and what is involved in volunteering. They would also have a chance to hear from an already active volunteer.
Meetings are Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th June. All sessions will begin at 6.30pm, and anyone interested is invited to attend. They will be held at the office in Drogheda (Distillery House, Dyer Street, Drogheda, Co Louth). Anyone interested in attending one of the information evenings should contact Danielle on 041-9809964 or dlambe@ispcc.ie to book a place.
Reading at the library
Louth County Libraries will run the Summer Stars Reading Programme for children in all library branches during the summer months from mid June to the end of August. Research shows that children who maintain their reading levels throughout the holiday period return to school in September well equipped for the challenges of the new school year.
Summer Stars is an exciting reading based programme which is available free of charge to all children in County Louth. All children are invited to register for the programme, there will be lots of incentives along the way to encourage reading and a host of fun events are planned throughout the library branches to complement the programme.
At the end of the challenge, all children who participate are invited to attend a closing ceremony where they will be presented with their certificate of participation.
You can follow Summer Stars on Twitter @ Starsreading and on the library Facebook page www.facebook.com/louthcountylibraries.
