‘Disgrace’ Drogheda hasn’t own Director of Services in town
LOUTH TD Fergus O’Dowd TD says the lack of a Director of Services for Drogheda is ‘disgraceful’, accusing some councillors and officials of being ‘asleep on the job’.
The former Fine Gael minister made the comments following a launch at the Mill enterprise centre, where Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development, John Halligan TD and Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Pat Breen TD were announcing details from the national ‘Project Ireland 2040’ plan.
Deputy O’Dowd says the choice of Drogheda for the launch recognises the town as a centre for growth, but there are still areas where he would like to see change.
“I’m looking for a separate local authority with the power of a county council for Drogheda, and for councillors to fight for the town,” said Deputy O’Dowd.
“The fact that there is no Director of Services for the town is disgraceful and that’s the decision of the County Council and some of these guys are asleep on the job.”
From an investment point of view, he says we have to focus on the positive action that is taking place. “Out of Louth,Meath and Cavan, more investors are coning to Louth than anywhere else,” he adds. “The IDA now has a different role for Drogheda as a regional centre, and it is on the plan.’
