ScoilNaomh CholmcillepaY tributetocrew ofRescue116
The school community of Scoil Naomh Cholmcille, Tullydonnell, Togher paid tribute to the crew of Rescue 116 who had visited their school approximately 6 months prior to the tragic accident in March 2017.
Mark Duffy was the pilot on this day and was accompanied by Ciarán Smith. The amazing dedication, commitment and selflessness of the crew was acknowledged by Fr. Tom Daly.
The pupils of ScoilNaomhCholmcille were so inspired by the teamwork of R116 when it visited John Kelly’s field near the school that they decided to dedicate a mosaic of ‘ The Tree of Life’ to the team ‘In fond memory of crew 116 who taught us the value of teamwork’. The mosaic was completed with the finishing touches by local tiler and coast guard officer Dermot Mc Connoran. Dermot organised the visit of R116 to the school and thought it would be fitting to remember the great work they did.
Mark Duffy and Ciarán Smith were so generous with their time and so patient with the children on the day, allowing them to try on theirhelmets and showing them how the winch worked. This was noted by all staff and the genuine care and kindness of the two men was obvious to all. They were an inspiration to everyone that day.
This crew will not be forgotten in Tullydonnell, the wonderful memories will remain with us always. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.
