McGrane lands silver medal in Belfast

-

JUST one athlete from St Peter’s AC was in action last weekend, as Tom McGrane travelled to the Mary Peters Track in Belfast for the Northern Ireland Masters’ Championships on Saturday.

These championships are not restricted to Northern Ireland athletes but are open to all.

They attracted a good entry from right across Ireland as well as some athletes who came across from Scotland and England.

Tom added 40cm to his season’s best, set when winning the Leinster title at the beginning of June, to take silver in the M55 Shot Putt with a throw of 10.06m.

The event was won by Bosco Reid of Finn Valley AC in Co. Donegal with John Territt of St Abban’s AC in Co. Laois claiming the bronze medal.

This coming week will be a busier one for the athletes of the Dromiskin-based club. The Louth Senior, U20 and Masters’ Championships will be staged on Thursday evening at the Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda. This will be followed two days later by the Irish U12 to U16 ‘B’ Championships in Tullamore, in which six young St Peter’s athletes are due to compete.

Finally, on Sunday, a number of the club’s athletes are expected to represent Co. Louth in the second round of the National League at the Morton Stadium in Santry, Dublin.
