Stars of the Sea GFC look to big future

OVER 150 guests attended the second annual reunion of the Stars of the Sea (East Meath) G.F.C. in the Neptune Hotel, Bettystown.

Mr. T. Watters, chairman, expressed sincere thanks to ail who had given support to the club during the previous twelve nonths and said that he was confident that “this solidarity of clubmanshi­p will have its own reward when the team brings the Junior Championsh­ip to East Meath.”

Having thanked Mr. Dessie Smith for giving them the use of his field, Mr. Watters expressed gratitude of all who had in any way helped in the running and organising of the club’s activities throughout the season.

Mr. David Cusack, the club secretary, appealed to all youth to treat training as a serious subject, as training was their only assurance of attaining the goal for which they were striving — the bringing of the junior championsh­ip to East Meath.

Rev. J. Bird, C.C.. spoke of the need for football in the area and saying that the youth of today were the stars of tomorrow, added that it was absolutely essential to see active participat­ion in this sport maintain the high standard set by their predecesso­rs. It was, he said a very great pleasure to him to see so many of the younger generation taking such an interest in Gaelic football — a pastime which was good for them both morally and spirituall­y.

Mr. James Tully, T.D., recalled some of the golden days of local football ; congratula­ted the juvenile team on the winning of the Marian Park League last year, and appealed to all players to train often and hard and to attend unfailingl­y all practice and challenge games scheduled.
