Guth Gafa Film Festival 2018 in the Headfort Estate
There’s a real buzz building around this year’s Guth Gafa Film Festival in Kells which is running from the 20th- 22nd July on the magnificent grounds of Headfort Estate. Festival organisers say this year promises to be their best festival yet with filmmakers flying in from all around the world to take part.
This year Guth Gafa have partnered with Meath County Council Arts Office to present a selection of films for teenage audiences, as part of a day-long event of films and live music called Teenage Dreams on Friday 20th July.
The day will be completely free for second level students with screenings of entertaining, thought-provoking films including the Oscar nominated The Breadwinner, a visually stunning animation from the Cartoon Saloon which tells of a young girl’s courage to save her father from the Taliban in Kabul. Science Fair, lauded by audiences at the prestigious Sundance Festival, is an affectionate ode to the teenage ‘science geeks’ at the world’s biggest science competition. There’s the charming fish-outof-water tale A Polar Year, which tells the story of the culture clash between a naive Danish primary school teacher and the 80 inhabitants of a remote village on the ice of Greenland. The complexities of the father/son relationship amid the background of the Troubles will be explored in The Image You Missed by Irish filmmaker Donal Foreman.
All films at The Teenage Dreams event will have a short discussion afterwards, with filmmakers or experts in the subject of the films, and this is supported by the Education Department of Maynooth University The full 2018 festival programme is available online at www.guthgafa.com and bookings for the Teenage Dreams event can be made directly via events@guthgafa.com
