CIARAN TRIUMPHS IN CANADA.

Hearty congratulations go out to Tenure’s Ciaran Byrne who has taken a Gold medal in a prestigious Jiu Jitsu event in Canada, where he has being for the past 2 years.

Ciaran , son of Declan and Sandra has been training in Jiu Jitsu for roughly 4 years now and his hard work was amply rewarded on Sunday, June 24th when he took home the ultimate prize in The Ontario Provincial Championship in the 188.2 to 202.2 lbs weight division. The fact that this was his first triumph on foreign soil and that it was such a worthy event, made the success that much sweeter.

The young Monasterboice man, brother to exciting Irish soccer international and St Patricks Athletic man, Thomas, trains out of Toronto Nogi which is affiliated with one of the best practitioners in the world, Robert Drysdale, who has won many world titles,

Ciaran trains 4 times a week for the last 2 years and started seeing a nutritionist to help with weigh cuts and to help his general diet and, boy, has it paid off.

Although Ciaran now resides in Canada, he’s very proud of his parish and very conscious that he is, in a fashion, representing Monasterboice every time he combats.

Let me tell you Ciaran, the pride is reciprocated and we will watch, with interest, all your future endeavours.

You can follow his journey on instagram which is fluffybyrnebjj_

PERFUME FACTORY IN BOG ROAD.

Out walking the (oh so) bauld Bertie n Bouncer the other day and was hit, and hit, being the operative word, with the most pungent, fragrant, aromatic, effluvious scent one could ever ask for. A six course meal for the nasal department, if ever there was one. The honeysuckle was giving out free spray samples for everyone and, if it was bottleable, I wager Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein et al wouldn’t be having it all their own way. Hip hip for nature. Now, speaking about Bertie and Bouncer’s boldness.........

FEILE.

As I write, Naomh Mairtin are just about to welcome clubs from Offally and Westmeath to their pitches for the u14 Feile. As you read this, self same teams will have gone home and departed. Hope to give you more details on the event next week.

LOUGH DERG.

TIDY VILLAGE.

An open meeting was held recently in the Community Hall regarding forming a group to help improve the appearance of Clogherhead Village. The response was terrific and I will have a list of people who you may contact if you would like to help. The more people, the less work and with this great weather, the less time out in the sun.

CLOGHERHEAD & WALSHESTOWN PARISH DRAW.

The annual 10 week draw will be starting shortly. If you would like to take a card to help out you can come to the meeting room in St. Michael’s Church this Wednesday at 8.p.m. Thank you.

PARTY TIME

The latest craze at the All Weather Pitch in Clogherhead is to hire it out by the hour for your child and their friends to play football. It costs only €20 for 1 hour and after the hour you can continue the party there on the pitch or go to the Community Hall where they can run around having great fun in secure, friendly and safe surroundings for only €30 per hour. And then they just flake out with tiredness, happy but tired.
