Public meeting on new Educate Together
THE Campaign to bring a second-level Educate Together school to serve Drogheda, Laytown and East Meath is stepping up a gear, with a public meeting being held this Tuesday July 10th.
Educate Together will hold the meeting at Le Cheile Educate Together National School, Mornington Road, Drogheda at 7.30 pm to support its application for patronage of a brand-new 600-pupil second-level school to serve families in Drogheda, Laytown and East Meath.
Addressing the meeting will be Dr Laura Dooley, Second-level Education Officer at Educate Together who will discuss Educate Together’s equality-based ethos and the Ethical Education curriculum that is used throughout the Educate Together second-level network.
“Educate Together second-level schools reflect and celebrate the diversity of their school communities with students at the heart of the educational experience,” says Dr Dooley.
“I’m looking forward to meeting families interested in an Educate Together secondary school for their area and answering any queries that they might have on how the Educate Together ethos works in practice at second-level.”
The Department of Education and Skills recently opened its Online Patronage Process System (OPPS) that will decide patronage of the school and Educate Together is working together with local advocates to raise awareness of this new process.
The group is encouraging families that want an Educate Together second-level school in their area to register their support on the dedicated website on the Department of Education and Skills: https://patronage.education.gov.ie/
“I dearly want my son to experience the Educate Together ethos in secondary school,” commented Mary Carty, a parent and campaigner for a second-level Educate Together school in the Drogheda area.
“The focus on equality, inclusion, diversity and respect has been hugely beneficial to him. He has thrived in this setting and learned so much about the world and himself.”
All are welcome to attend the meeting.
