Annual Garda v Boyne/Cable charity match for Hannah
THE feel good factor that has dominated the hosting of the Midnight Leagues at Drogheda Boys was evident in abundance at last week’s launch.
For the next three weeks, players from all over the town will compete for a place in the finals night on July 19. Organised by An Garda Siochana with the Boyne Project and the Cable Project, the event is as popular as ever, now running for five years.
The FAI have also come in behind it as well as the International Fund for Ireland.
Up to 60 youngsters were brought to the recent Ireland v USA game as part of it.
Graham Campbell from Drogheda Boys is delighted to be staging the event,. saying it helped bring young people into the game.
‘Some are now playing with teams, which is great,’ he stated.
Last week also saw the launch of the annual charity match when the Projects, along with some leaders and coaches, take on the local garda team.
The garda won the event last year so will be keen to keep their title.
The game is on Saturday July 28 with a 3pm kick off. The event is in aid of the Hannah Donnelly fund and takes place at United Park.
‘We will have a bucket collection and so far the game has raised almost €6,000 for local charities down the years,’ Garda Anita O’Shea stated.
The organisers will also organise a raffle before the game and would welcome any donation of items. They can be given to the Projects co-ordinators or the JLO office in the garda station.
