HEIREANN - DROGHEDA - SUNDAY, AUGUST 12- AUGUST 19TH
Trad! ‘The Factory Maid’ of Mell part of unique Songtrail
SONGTRAIL will be the perfect chance to hear all about
Drogheda’s music traditions.
It’s exactly that - a Songtrail, heading off from Barlow
House and heading onto Trinity Street to hear the stories of a time long since gone.
Indeed, you’ll hear all about a wonderful song from the
Mell factories of long ago,
‘ The Factory Maid’ - performed by Gerry Connor - and it goes on from there, visiting other areas and telling some cracking stories.
It features ‘stories of traditional song, songwriters, keepers and collectors. Songtrail celebrates the diverse culture of traditional music making in Drogheda through a walking trail experience for local and visiting audiences. An aural blending of documentary, musical recordings, biographical material, and anecdote created in the community using local knowledge, archives, musicians and singers,’ the promoters say.
The trail was designed and compiled by Declan Mallon of Upstate Theatre Project. It runs from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th August at 11.00am, 1.00pm & 3.00pm. Tickets for the trail are €10. There will be some highlights of the Fleadh - this will be one.
