A TALLY of 5-18 in a provincial semi-final is impressive by any standards, but Minor manager Joe Treanor also pointed out that Meath’s conversion rate, particularly in the opening half against Laois, wasn’t what it might have been.
‘All six starting forwards scored in the opening 25 minutes, but they all missed as well,’ the Monaghan native said after the 25-point win over the midlanders.
‘Our conversion rate was only 57%, so that was somewhat unacceptable. They had all scored, but they had also been wasteful as well.
‘They refocused and did well in the second half and the subs we introduced did well also, so we are all happy with the general performance.’
Meath made a great start to proceedings with a goal inside a minute and they built on that, which was something that pleased the manager.
‘We have done a lot of work over the last number of weeks in particular with how we start in matches,’ Treanor continued. ‘The first couple of games this year we were a little slow out of the blocks. Today we started off very smartly, we were 1-2 up after two minutes and it gave us a great platform to kick on.
‘The guys started well, kept the pressure on, kept Laois on the back foot throughout the first half and we went in at halftime fairly comfortable.
‘We set a goal at half-time that we wanted them to win the second half as well rather than sit back on their laurels,
