‘Complacenc­y, lack of attention to detail, could be an issue, but it was also hot out there. The heat does cause dehydratio­n and with that concentrat­ion does slip and it did slip on a number of occasions.

‘Having a 100% scoring rate would be an exception to the rule. I’ve been setting goals for 80% plus, so we hadn’t been reaching those targets in the first half. We talked about it in the dressing-room at the break and we kicked on in the second half.

‘When you look back and do your analysis of the match you look at the facets of what we did well, what we set out to do, how we executed the plan but also the errors we made. We reinforce the good stuff we did, but we also try and correct what we did wrong.’

After lining out with virtually a second string in the one remaining group game against fellow semi-finalists Wicklow the previous Tuesday evening, Treanor stressed that he had a really strong panel, with plenty of players putting their hand up for a starting spot.

‘We talked before that my job wasn’t as much to build a team but build a squad, and when I look around at the bench I have six or eight lads capable of coming on.

‘We rested a lot of lads against Wicklow in mid-week and that team ran Wicklow to two points. We have a seriously strong squad at the moment.’
