- By ALISON COMYN

A DROGHEDA clinic is leading the way in a pioneering treatment from women who suffer from incontinence.

Drogheda Medical Clinic on the Dublin Road is offering a new urinary incontinence treatment service that is already changing the lives of some women.

Do you pee when you cough, laugh, sneeze? Stress incontinence is a very underreported symptom in women.

There are many studies to show that many women suffer in silence with this very distressing condition and just learn to manage it and protect themselves.

This new technology promises much quicker results with no downtime, no general anaesthetic, little or no discomfort (likened to a warm stone massage) and no real preparation for this non-surgical, non-invasive treatment.

‘We are really enthusiastic about this as I think it will revolutionise the treatment of urinary incontinence, with added benefits and generally can restore women to their pre-baby state,’ says Dr Oliver Lynn, who carries out the treatment with three experienced nurses.

‘I’m excited because it is really a stress incontinence treatment that has lots of other positive benefits and is a safe and tolerable treatment of both the internal and external area. It also can be done in the surgery at lunchtime with no anaesthesia, 30 – 40 minutes a treatment and patient can go back to work in the afternoon!’

Many women perceive incontinence as part of ageing process and have low expectations of treatments

ThermiVa is a radio frequency thermal treatment of the vaginal and vulval lining to correct and restore collagen formation in the skin of the area providing both aesthetic function and functional improvement in terms of strength, elasticity and hydration of the lining.

It is a non-surgical, non-invasive, topical, non- hormonal and no anaesthesia treatment provided in 3 sessions over 3 to 4 months in an out-patient setting.

For a large number of women entering their 40s and 50s their general sense of well-being may be adversely affected by the effects of childbirth and aging. This can affect confidence, self-esteem and quality of life. ThermiVa offers an opportunity to REVIVE a vital component of a woman’s intimate health and restore her confidence and well-being.

Women who have been treated for various cancers may suffer from premature menopause resulting in significant vaginal dryness and irritation. For many, due to the nature of their disease, hormone replacement may be inappropriate. ThermiVa offers a safe and effective alternative to reverse some of these unwanted changes

94 % of patients on “Realself .com” report a high level of satisfaction after the treatment
