Bumpy ride as Under-15s edged out in the AUL

-

A BUMPY pitch at the AUL Complex didn’t suit the Drogs’ quick passing style as they suffered a narrow defeat in this SSE Airtricity U-15 National League clash last Saturday.

From the start it was the home side who put pressure on the visiting defence and they took the lead on 15 minutes with an unstoppable shot which curled into the net at the back post.

Although the Drogs came back into the game towards half-time they went in 1-0 down at the interval.

Immediately on the restart, the Drogs were unfortunate when the ball bobbled in front of Francis Campbell as he was

about to take a shot on the Shels goal from close in and the chance was lost.

The away side were out of luck again when Tadgh Connolly hit the post after some good approach play from Luke Caffrey.

Shels scored their second goal in a rare break from incessant Drogs attacks and Caffrey and Connolly had good shots saved before Francis scored for the Drogs with 15 minutes to go with a brilliant shot.

The Drogs almost equalised in the closing minutes when a great free kick from the hard-working John McDonagh was saved by the Shels keeper.

DROGHEDA UNITED: Antonio Ignat, Michael Hilliard, Jack Crowe, Nick Palov, John McDonagh, Aaron Naughton, Joshua Wall, Tadgh Connolly, Owen Murphy, Michael Leddy, Francis Campbell, Subs : Jack McCarthy, Craig Gray, Aaron Murphy, Luke Caffrey.
