Days of the Abbey Ballroom soccer exhibition launches
A football-inspired exhibition, ‘ The Abbey Ballroom indoor football exhibition’, will be officially launched at County Museum Dundalk at 7pm on Thursday, 9th August.
A collaboration between Drogheda Local Voices, Drogheda Museum Millmount and County Museum Dundalk, this exhibition will recount the eclectic history of the Abbey Ballroom which was the home of successful men’s and women’s indoor football teams in the 1960s. All those who played or attended indoor football competitions during that era are invited to attend the launch.
‘ The Abbey Ballroom indoor football exhibition’ will open to the public from Friday, 10th August.
Meanwhile, the County Musuem Dundalk is the backdrop for an episode of ‘Creedon’s Road Less Travelled’ dedicated to Jimmy Hasty, one of the most remarkable players in Dundalk FC history. The episode will air at 6.30pm on Sunday, 5th August on RTÉ One.
Jimmy Hasty, the one-armed centre-forward who played a vital role in Dundalk FC’s league title win in 1963, is celebrated in County Museum Dundalk’s ‘One Team, One Dream’ exhibition which pays tribute to the club’s rich sporting past and present. Last month, a number of relatives, friends, team-mates and fans of Jimmy Hasty joined RTÉ’s John Creedon at the exhibition to share their recollections of one of Dundalk FC’s most prolific goalscorers.
