Prayers for local woman Zoe Holohan - widow of Greek fire victim

-

A woman who grew up in Drogheda and was injured in the Greek wildfires, now faces up to two months in hospital.

Zoe Holohan, who lived on the Dublin Road for 10 years and went to school in Fatima, lost her new husband Brian O’Calllaghan Westropp, in the devastating blaze.

She has undergone an operation and now faces a long road to recovery.

Locals friends of the woman, whose mother Deirdre Wynne was a well-known singer on the local circuit, are praying for her full recovery.

Ms Holohan works in the advertising department of the Sunday World newspaper and married to Brian on July 20th.

The newlyweds were on honeymoon in Mati, Greece when the wildfire threatened their rented holiday home. Escaping on foot it is understood that they were able to join a crowded car, which crashed but Zoe who was given first aid before being taken to hospital in Athens.

Her husband Brian had been lost somewhere along the journey, however and he did not survive the fire. It claimed the lives of at least 88 people and has prompted criticism of the government’s handling of the disaster.

Today three members of the same family are due to be laid to rest in the first known funeral since the blaze broke out in the seaside village of Mati, 30 km (17 miles) east of Athens.
