Something for everyone at Boyne Music Festival

-

TO get people nicely warmed up for the forthcoming Fleadh festival, Townley Hall, Drogheda will play host to a celebration of chamber music, jazz, poetry and song.

From August 3rd to 5th, the Boyne Music Festival will welcome Hungarian mezzo-soprano Dorottya Láng as well as members of the famous Brodsky Quartet - Jacqueline Thomas and Paul Cassidy -who performed at the

2017 festival.

They will be joined by Rita Manning, Robin Panter, Julianne Manning, Deirdre Brenner and Aisling Manning. Returning again is London bassist Chris Laurence who is bringing along his Chris Laurence Quartet for what promises to be an exciting Saturday night jazz event.

The venue, on the banks of the Boyne, just outside Drogheda on the road to Slane, is a beautiful Georgian house is the perfect setting for the kind of performances audiences will enjoy. The concerts take place in the Library, an intimate venue, the kind of room in which Mozart and Schubert would expect their chamber music to be heard.

The world-class musicians visiting the Boyne Music Festival over the past five years have provided a very different experience for their audiences and the local community.

The concert performances are just one part of their contribution to the festival because the visiting musicians take time to nurture young performers in the Young Artists Programme.

This programme provides intensive masterclasses for upand-coming young singers and instrumentalists and gives them the opportunity to perform at one of the festival concerts.

One of Ireland’s greatest literary talents and founder of The Gallery Press, poet Peter Fallon, will be the poet in residence at this year’s festival. He will share his work in a poetry reading on Sunday August 5th.

The very young are also well catered for at the Boyne Music Festival through an engaging children’s workshop on the Saturday morning and a delightful family concert in the afternoon.

There is something for everyone, young and old, at the 2018 Boyne Music Festival.
