Drama galore at the Late Night League finals
THE excitement at Drogheda Boys FC grounds was on par with the World Cup Final as the Junior and Senior Tournament finals of the Late Night League took place.
The Junior Final was between The Drogheda Legends and Team BWST . They played their hearts out and it was a nail biting finish.
It was 2:2 all draw when the Referee Graham Campbell (Chairperson of Drogheda Boys FC) blew the final whistle and then it went to penalties. The penalties were taken and the final score was 3:1 with The Drogheda Legends winning the Junior Tournament.
Young Player of the Summer Tournament was awarded to Steven Dalton who was so surprised to have won he was actually left speechless.
Then it was time for the Senior teams to step onto the pitch - The Rejects FC and Rochey FC. It was a tough game and both teams were quick on their feet and showed off some fancy footwork..
At the final score was 8:5 with Rochey FC taking the trophy home.
Senior Player of the Tournament was awarded to Andrew Olajide who played with The Rejects Team.
Garda Anita O’ Shea, Juvenile Liaison Officer at Drogheda Garda Station said ; “We had a fantastic turn out for the Summer Late Night League which ran over four nights in July. We had approximately 60 young people making up teams in the Junior and Senior Tournament. It was great to see so many parents come out each night and support their children during the League.

Stephen, Carmel & Denise of The BOYNE Project, St. Finians Park and Garda Dave Rothwell of the Community Policing Unit, Drogheda Garda Station. But most of all, the young people who come out and play in the tournament, some who have never played before but give 100% effort.’
