The feature of the Byrne Monumental Crossmaglen sponsored Wed Cup off the Green Markers was the remarkable Hole in One recorded by Daniel Hughes (7) at the 335 yard Hole 15.

Daniel’s remarkable feat took a bit away from the plaudits for Raymond Kelly who won his second Wed Cup qualifier with the perfect 27 points for the 9 holes.

There are 4 rounds of fixtures remaining in the Byrne Monumental Cup one off each of the 4 sets of markers in use. This Wednesday the Front 9 White is in play.

With Raymond Kelly already qualified in this section the weekly winner and runner-up in this category are up for grabs this Wednesday for a place in the final.

Our inter-club 2018 journey came to an unsporting end at SPA on Sunday evening.

Holding a 6 hole lead from the home leg the team was confident of advancing to the semi-finals, but before a ball was struck in anger our hopes of progress were dashed.

With 3 teams sent out to play, a player in our last pairing got lost and missed his tee-time. Although match 3 was still playing the opening par 5 hole, the home Sam Rutherford Captain claimed the 18 hole entitlement for a player being late, which ultimately cost us the tie.

We finished the 3 very sporting games played on the day (to go with the 4 matches played at Cloverhill) 2 holes up, to give us an 8 hole lead which was then wiped out by the 18 hole forfeit.

Our Ulster Cup team bowed out of the competition following a quarter final defeat at the hands of Co. Armagh. Holding a slender 4-3 lead going into the away leg at Armagh the hosts proved to be the much better side on the night and deservingly qualified for their first ever semi-final in that competition.
