Mary Kermath and her Swedish dance

PUPILS of the Sacred Heart School of the Drogheda Convent of Mercy displayed their talent at their annual Christmas concert last week and won much acclaim for themselves and their teachers.

The concert was big number of singing and dancing items, which were warmly applauded by the big attendance who thoroughly enjoyed the entertainm­ent provided. The M.C. was Maeve Maguire, who capably handled her task. The programme opened with a tribute to Our Lady by Fifth Year pupils with their rendering of “Memorare “and “Nazareth.” Fifth Year Choir : Rose O’Donoghue, Olive McNally, Vera Hanlon, Clare Walsh, Joan Murphy, Mary Gargan. Ann Corcoran, Eleanor Cantwell, Deirdre Byrne and Pauline Conway. The part of Our Lady was portrayed by Eithne Keogh.

Dressed in the traditiona­l costume of a young Swedish girl, Mary Kermath danced a Swedish folk number which reflected great credit on herself and her teacher.

Another item to please was the verse-speaking of the pupils of Second Year B, who contribute­d “Little Things “and “The Blackbird at the Gate.”

A ballet, gracefully danced by Vera Hanlon, was accorded enchusiast­ic applause.

The minuet, entitled, “The Galliard,” was danced by three young pupils, Bernadette McGuffin, Mary Connor and Valerie Brannigan.

In the military dances were : Roslin O’Callaghan. Ann Collier, Kitty Drew, Marie Milliard, Vera Walsh, Noleen Dunne. Ann McGovern, Denise McGuire, Bernadette McGuffin, Brenda Byrne, Mary Connor, Daisy Rafferty and Patricia O’Brien.
