FRESH produce company Meade Potato Company won on the double at the recent Food & Drink Business Awards, taking home the Fresh Produce Company of the Year Award as well as Sustainable Factory of the Year.

The inaugural Food and Drink Business Awards celebrated the best of manufacturing and the people behind the products, attracting a large number of high profile entries to the CityWest Hotel.

Other winners on the night included Dairygold Dairy Ingredients, the Happy Pear, Britvic Ireland, East Coast Bakehouse and Manor Farm.

“We’re thrilled to win both awards amid such tough competition. We’ve been working away here in the heart of the Boyne Valley in County Meath, trying to increase efficiency, quality and sustainability in our growing and supply operations and it’s nice for our entire team to get recognised for all their hard work,” said Eleanor Meade of Meade Potato Company on the night.

The Lobinstown company had humble beginnings and began when Philip Meade Sr. first began selling potatoes in the towns around Meath and Louth in 1977. The Meade Potato Company was incorporated in 1982.

Their passion for potatoes soon extended to Irish vegetables, and later, to Irish and other fruit. What started out as a love affair with the Irish spud soon transformed into a mission to bring all types of tasty, wholesome and healthy produce into the Irish kitchen. From their family farm in Lobinstown, Meade Potato Company have now been growing, packing and distributing premium quality potatoes, fruit, vegetables, salads and organics over the past five decades.
