New Laytown promenade is proving to be a wonderful success story for the coastal area

-

MEATH County Council and their contractor have been praised for the superb new Laytown promenade and coastal defences.

Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan remarked, “I am delighted to see these works completed, and just finished in time for the Laytown Strand Races, which was crucial but they got there by the skin of their teeth.

The finish is absolutely first class, and I am delighted that our Engineers in Meath County Council were able to include a fabulous Promenade in conjunction with the coastal protection works, and also a complete replacement of the two sets of steps down to the beach.

‘ The area looks absolutely amazing, and local people as well as visitors are delighted with the end result. This has now highlighted just how bad the rest of the area is on the beach, and I will be calling for funding to be sourced to complete the badly need coastal protection works for the rest of the Laytown and Bettystown area.

‘ These badly damaged gabions are a health hazard and we should be doing all we can to complete a new scope of works for the rest of the coastline, and submitting it to the Department for funding.’

Cllr Tom Kelly also praised the works at last week’s area council meeting, saying it was a credit to the council.

‘It shows what can be done. This was our fourth attempt and I hope it will work better than the gabions.’
