Players will learn from experience

suppose they didn’t do it all year and when they got to the big pitch they thought perhaps themselves they were doing the right thing.

‘Look, if the game was tighter it was the right thing to do but when the game was in that way it was tough for them to realise they had to push out and press the ball.

‘As I said it is a learning curve that is something they are going to have to learn as a county team that you can’t sit back and invite another team in on top of you and that’s what they’ve just learnt from today.’

Bishops pointed to the double edged sword of inexperience his panel possesses but feels the upside will eventually tell down the line.

‘That’s the thing, when you are coming to Croke Park maybe with only four or five girls that have played in Croke Park before, you are coming with a very young profile of players. It is tough for them? it is a big occasion for them. Is it something that will stand to them? Surely. Getting to play in Croke Park first of all, but also being beaten in Croke Park will certainly stand to the group of girls,’ he then disclosed just how inexperienced his panel was.

‘To know that there is ferocious potential you know when you look at the age group of the team.

‘You have 16 under the age of 21 quite incredible for any team that reaches a junior final but what I would say is, you know there is plenty of work that can be and they can go back to the drawing board and get ready to rock and roll for next year,’ he added.

Bishop was quick to point out emotions had a factor but the sheer quality of Limerick was eventually what swung the balance in their favour.

‘Very emotional in the changing rooms before the game.’ he admitted.

‘Add that to their age. I suppose going out it was definitely going to be tough. Did they handle it? in periods without a doubt. Would I blame the day or occasion? not really, Limerick were a very strong team.

‘They brought in two stalwarts and the girl Delee got player of the match only landed in a month ago, so if you can bring that into your team, a star centre forward, it is very strong team d’ya know. I would say a number of factors could have influenced the game today.’

‘I will say the type of girls you have wearing a Louth jersey today is, they never quit, they never stopped. You had a girl sin binned as well and still never stopped or quit. You could never question their want to win just unfortunately they were beaten by a stronger team.’

Bishop who acquired the role in tragic circumstances unsurprisingly kept his cards close to his chest about his role going into next season.

‘I wouldn’t be commenting as yet.’ he stated.

‘I’ll sit down with the county board, county executive and I’ll have a chat with them but it certainly won’t be this week or next week.

‘We’ll take a good long break as I said to the girls and they have to go back to their clubs and play their club championships and please god that no one gets injured and they get competing really well in the Leinster championship as well.’
