Glyde realise their goal with battling victory

-

came flying out of the blocks and their high-tempo game saw their opposition unable to settle. Colin Murphy and Killian Gregory set the tone with points from frees before Brian Duffy had Glyde off the mark but with Pierce Hawkins and Paul Callan on the mark Lannleire were good value for a 0-6 to 0-2 lead after 18 minutes.

Rangers were struggling for inspiration at that stage and it was gifted to them when a foul by Brendan McEvoy on Ciaran Sheridan inside the square allowed the Glyde man to score the first goal from a penalty.

Gareth Moran then edged his side ahead with two fine points but Lannleire responded before the break with scores from Gary Monaghan and Murphy to lead by 0-8 to 1-4.

The second half wasn’t two minutes old when the initiative swung the other way again as Niall Sharkey made space in front of the posts to fire to the roof of the net.

It looked as if that might signal the end of the Lannleire challenge but they responded in impressive fashion and points from Shane Kennedy, Gregory and Murphy had them leading by 0-14 to 2-5 at the end of the third quarter.

However, once again they were rocked back by the concession of a goal as this time the impressive Gareth Moran fired to the bottom corner and help his side lead by 3-7 to 0-15 entering injury time.

The Dunleer men did have the chances to get back on terms, the best of which was a free from Alan Murphy that came back off the post, and Glyde took full advantage with late points from Paul Noone and Trevor O’Brien to settle the issue.
