Four-goal Seneschalstown still well beaten

THREE goals in the opening half wasn’t enough to prevent Seneschalstown from going down to a 10-point defeat in the Feis Cup at Kilberry on Saturday.
Seneschalstown got off to the perfect start with Dylan Keating scoring a goal in the third minute. Alan Callaghan responded with a point for the hosts. Keating turned provider for Seneschalstown’s second goal, setting up Joe Sheridan who finished to the net.
Successive points from Padraic Diamond, Thomas Blaney and Sarán O Fionnagáin had Tones back in contention before Brian Sheridan converted a free to leave three between the sides.
A goal and a point from Thomas O’Reilly left Tones ahead for the first time, but Seneschalstown were back level following Brian Sheridan’s second point.
The hosts regained the lead with points from Fiachra Ward and Thomas Blaney, but it was Seneschalstown who led at the break, 3-2 to 1-7, after Keating set up Brian Sheridan for a goal on the stroke of half-time. Sheridan doubled the lead on the restart, but Seneschalstown weren’t in front for long as Fiachra Ward hit 1-2 and Diamond and Blaney were also on target for the home side.
Stephan Finnegan responded with a point for Seneschalstown, but Tones wrapped up proceedings in the early part of the final quarter with a goal and four points. Cian Ward was on target with the goal and he also accounted for a point, along with Fiachra Ward, Saran O Fionnagain and Blaney.
Seneschalstown’s fourth goal came too late to have an impact.

•In other Feis Cup ties Na Fianna defeated Dunshaughlin 1-15 to 0-13, while St Patrick’s received a walkover from Moynalvey. Blackhall Gaels also failed to field against O’Mahony’s.
And in the Corn na Boinne Duleek-Bellewstown were convincing first-round winners over Nobber on a 2-21 to 1-13 scoreline.
