Defeated Town are seeking cup tonic

ST KEVIN’S BOYS DROGHEDA TOWN 2 0

DROGHEDA Town take a back seat from Leinster Senior League duties over the next fortnight as they prepare for back-to-back cup games, following mixed fortunes last week.

Robbie Horgan’s charges got their first three points under their belt on Monday night as first-half goals from Marty Walsh and Sam Reilly proved enough to secure a 2-1 victory over Ratoath Harps.

However, they were unable to maintain that moment and on Friday night they lost 2-0 away to St Kevin’s Boys to leave themselves in the bottom half of the table after three games.

A disappointing first half in the capital ended all square, but Town improved on the restart and Walsh was twice foiled by the Kevin’s keeper as Town threatened to break the deadlock.

The home side eventually found a way past the Town defence to score the lead goal in the 75th minute, but Town were unlucky not to equalise when substitute Sanele Duma had his effort saved.

As they pushed hard for a leveller in the latter stages the Drogheda men left themselves open to the counter-attack and St Kevin’s duly struck for their second and decisive goal in stoppage time to give the scoreline a rather flattering look.

Horgan was missing the services of captain Ciaran Cluskey Kelly and Dale Harding (both unavailable) as well as the suspended Jordan Kelly and Andy Hickey, while centre-half Stephen Doran lasted just 15 minutes before having to limp off with an injury.

However, the manager will hope to have some of these players for the upcoming home games against Gorey (FAI Junior Cup) and Darndale (Leinster Junior Cup).
