DUNLEER SOCIETY

THE Waterford Golf Course and the Tramore Golf Course were the venues for the Dunleer Golf Societies Away Outing on the 7th/8th September.

The overall prize was sponsored by the Dunleer Credit Union and the results from the two days were combined to arrive at a winner. Mick Coulter 63pts was the overall winner as well as winning the longest drive, nearest the pin and the 2s on the first day.

The remaining results were as follows: 1st Turlach King 58pts back 9, 2nd Mary Tiernan 58pts, 3rd Brian Wogan 51pts, longest drive day2 Ken Brady, nearest the pin 2day Mary Tiernan and 2’s 2day Mary Tiernan.

The next event is Jeanne Connolly’s Captains Prize at Seapoint on Saturday 29th September sponsored by Malone Windows.

DUNDALK LADIES

THE Club Cup and 18-hole Stroke GoY was played on Sat 8th and Tuesday 11th September.

This competitio­n was kindly sponsored by Tres Belle Hair Salon.

The scoring was fantastic with Anne McDonnell winning the Club Cup with 67nett. Well done to Anne on her superb round of golf.

Another lady who played great golf was Olivia Cunningham who had a 68 nett, winning Class A.

Well done to Bernie Prendergas­t and Eva Beirne who won Class B and C and congratula­tions to all the winners.

The final golfer of the year competitio­n will be played this coming Saturday and next Tuesday (25th). We will be watching closely who comes out on top and wins the Golfer of the Year award for 2018.

GREENORE LADIES

OUR Revive Active Fourball team bowed out to Kilrea GC in the Ulster Final staged at Kilkeel GC on Monday 10th September. The dismal weather took its toll on Greenore as a stronger Kilrea team secured victory and the pennant. Well done to all involved for their commitment over the past few months it’s been a wonderful season with Revive.

Some compensati­on was earned last Thursday when Greenore ladies beat Warrenpoin­t ladies 3 & 2 in the annual Hogg Trophy Scotch Foursomes matchplay competitio­n. The match was followed by a lovely meal and social get to together after which Greenore bid farewell to Warrenpoin­t as they left to catch the Ferry. Greenore look forward to defending the trophy next year in Warrenpoin­t.

Noreen Crichton is making a speciality of the Thursday Opens winning again last week with 32 pts.

The final Medal and Golfer of the Year competitio­n was staged on Saturday. One of our newer members Maureen McCartan stole the show with a great 72 nett which trimmed a shot off her handicap. Noreen Crichton featured again as runner-up with 74 nett. Front nine went to Kay McCartan with 35 nett and the back nine to Aideen McGahon on 37nett.

Thursday 20th September usual Open Day SF with alternate day play available for lady members.

Saturday 22nd September a Category ABC SF prize. BRS opens for booking as usual on Wednesday prior at 7pm.

CONGRATULA­TIONS to club member Pádraic Sarsfield on a superb win at the James Corcoran Memorial Scratch Cup in Lough Owel on Sunday.

Just three shots behind the leader after 36 holes, Pádraic shot a fantastic eight-under par final round of 46 to finish 19 under par, two shots clear of runner-up and MacBride clubmate Barry Thornton. Well done also to another MacBride member, Séamus Byrne, who won the Inter grade, finishing with seven-under par for 36 holes.

There was no winner of the most recent club lotto draw which took place on Tuesday last. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 12, & 24 and the lucky dip winners were Tom McCabe, Stephen Foran and John Leech. The next draw will take place on Tuesday 25th when the jackpot prize will be €3,600.

MacBride would like to wish good luck to our club members taking part in the Leinster Matchplay qualifying sessions this coming weekend. The Seniors are in Collon, Inters in Cement and Juniors in Channonroc­k.
