A local restaurant owner says she got the shock of her life when a man stumbled into the premises during a busy Saturday evening and said he had been stabbed.

Jeni Glasgow (right) from the Eastern Seaboard had to lock the door as the man, who had been stabbed in the head and back, said he was being chased by two men.

She and her staff stemmed the flow of blood while they waited for gardai and emergency services to arrive around 6.30pm on Saturday evening.

“I was just at the bar grabbing a late lunch, when the man came in through the door and said, ‘I’ve been stabbed’,’ explains Jeni.

“It was entirely shocking, and you could see he was panicking and in shock, but told us he was being chased, so we had to quickly lock both the doors in case someone came in.”

Many of her staff members are trained in first aid, so while they were waiting for the ambulance, a compress was applied to his head, which was badly bleeding.

“Unfortunately, it took the ambulance a while to get here, but the gardai and plain clothes detectives were here in minutes,’ she says.

“There were a good few customers there that time on a Saturday, and it really was an awful thing to go through and was very unsettling for all, but they were commending the way we handled the situation and we got back to normal very quickly after he was taken to hospital.”

Gardai in Drogheda confirmed an investigation was being launched after the man in his 20s received multiple stab wounds during an attack, where he received stab wounds to his back and his head.

The man was seriously injured in the incident which occurred at approximately 6.30pm on Saturday evening in the Bryanstown Manor area of the town.

Gardai say the man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda for treatment and are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
