First solo exhibition for Louth sculptor

-

ONE of the North East’s most exciting artists will be displaying her work alone for the first time, after being the recipient of Droichead Arts Centre’s inaugural First Solo Award.

Eimear Murphy won the honour of showing in the Stockwell Street space, after the Droichead offered recent graduates in the North East region the opportunity to have their first solo exhibition.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday October 18th at 7.30pm by Vivienne Byrne (Artist/Chairperson, Droichead Arts Centre) and Collette Farrell (Director, Droichead Arts Centre).

All are welcome to attend. Eimear asks the question; when does material become an object?

This exhibition looks again at familiar materials and shapes, questioning what an object is and how human or natural forces have influenced the design. Shape. Heap; thing houses sculpture and drawings. These artworks are created from or inspired by textures and forms which may be found in your home and your environments.

Through manipulating and colliding these materials (which have definite functions) you are invited to consider their origin and potential. With this in mind please interact with Shape. Heap, thing.

Growing up outside Dundalk “in a very hands-on household”, Murphy, aged six, wanted to be a carpenter. She achieved national fame with her piece ‘Drop’ commissioned by Dublin Port Authority.
