Cars are damaged after a number of incidents on the Donore Road

-

A driver is said to have ‘gone on a rampage’ through the town on Saturday morning, writing off two cars, demolishing a wall and crashing his car into traffic lights on the Donore Road, before making off on foot.

What has been described by residents as ‘carnage’ was left behind in the Cederfield estate at around 7.30am on Saturday 13th, with one eye-witness saying it was a miracle someone wasn’t injured or killed.

“He left so much damage, with my own husband’s car a total write-off, and a neighbour’s wall destroyed,’ says Marie Bell Reynolds, “but Drogheda is lucky so much worse didn’t happen.

“My neighbour was in the driveway when the car hit his wall and he was left very shaken , and a woman I know was leaving her son to work on the Donore Road when he clipped the Thatch pub, and she just about swerved out of the way before he hit her.”

Marie says she also spoke to a friend in Marian Park, where he is said to have damaged three cars there too, moments before he headed to the Donore Road area.

“He really left a trail of destruction, as he had picked up a sandbag and traffic cone on the front of his grey Ford Mondeo when he hit the works at the Thatch,” explains Paul Reynolds.

“He started with knocking the pillar of a wall into a driveway while the man was getting into his car, he hit my son’s van at the bottom of Cederfield, and the sandbag fell off, and he wrote off my car and crashed into another one, before hitting the lights at Lidl and abandoning the car. It was a miracle no one was killed.”

Gardai are investigating the incident and are appealing for more eye-witnesses to the incident, especially in the Marian Park, Donore Road and Cederfield parts of town.
