In addition to the well-established and popular attractions like the ‘Ghosts of Drogheda’ Walking Tour, the Irish Military War Museum Starinagh Collon promises a ‘Haunted Tour of the Museum as well as ‘ The Maze of Madness’ and the ‘ Terror Zone’, this year there are many new and diverse ‘Fun by Day’ and ‘Frights by Night’ events scheduled including; the Sonairte Úlla (apple) Harvest Festival in Laytown; Lantern Lit Canoe Tours on the Boyne; A Night of Mediumship at the Old Mill in Slane; And Slane Castle is opening its doors to welcome all Witches and Wizards alike into a world of Magic and Mystery to meet with their very own Professors and Students of the Wizarding World.

“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival I thank our members and tourism providers for developing innovative fun and scary events each year,” said Michele Whelan, Tourism Officer, Boyne Valley.

“The festival has grown in the number of events to choose from and the number of visitors it attracts to the Boyne Valley area, part of Ireland’s Ancient East.”

3,000 years ago, the first fire of Samhain was lit on the Hill of Tlachtga near Athboy, Co. Meath. From this sacred fire, torches were lit and carried to light fires all over the land signalling the start of Samhain now called Halloween. 3,000 years later, the community in Athboy have come together to host a dramatic new event in the place where Halloween began.

Called ‘ The Flame of Samhain Festival’, it will be held on the evening of Wednesday October 31st and promises an authentic retelling of the story of Samhain and its ancient origins at the hill of Tlachtga (Hill of Ward).
