U-16s are the cat’s whiskers in Kilkenny

-

BOYNE Under-16s ran in no fewer than 11 tries as they continued their strong start to the season with a huge away win over Kilkenny at the weekend.

An early touchdown by Alan Foley set the tone for the afternoon, and despite the wet conditions Boyne kept faith in their game plan of playing smart, open rugby. Stefan Borrs was in next with a fine solo effort and Ivan Murray then broke the line after a smart offload by Conor O’Dwyer, before Alex Hanratty and Stefan Borrs added further scores to leave Boyne 27-0 up at half-time.

The forwards continued to work hard and some big hits by Danny Little and Benny McGrath restricted the Cats’ attacking options. Forwards Marcu Maruhin, Kelly, Murray, Stokes and Lynch were also a constant attacking threat and it wasn’t long before Boyne were again on the scoreboard, this time after Evan Kelly broke from the back of a ruck.

Euan Canniffe and David Maxwell combined well in midfield to release James Keogh down the wing and his clever inside pass left Bors with an easy touchdown.

Future tries by Sean Horan, David Hobbs, Luke Rochford and a solo effort by Foley completed the scoring.
