Boys put up Major fight

DUNDRUM DROGHEDA BOYS 5 3

IN conditions more reminiscent of mid-June than mid-October, Drogheda Boys were involved in an eight-goal thriller in Dundrum on Sunday morning.

The hosts came out of the blocks quickly and within five minutes Jamie Casserly in the Drogheda goal was called into action to make a superb double save.

Dundrum kept the pressure up and on 18 minutes they scored from a corner before doubling their advantage on the half-hour mark.

This served as a wake-up call to Drogheda and on 34 minutes Bradley Abbedeen made space inside the penalty area to fire a shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

If Drogheda were hoping that goal might act as a springboard for more success, they were sadly mistaken as Dundrum struck three times - including once from the penalty spot - to stretch their lead to 5-1 by the 19th minute of the second half.

Five minutes later, though, Drogheda were awarded a free kick, from which a subtle chip over the wall by Chris Darga was met by a sublime touch from Josh Talabi who lobbed the keeper. Alas, time was almost up when the Boys pulled another goal back, courtesy of a superb free kick by Talabi.

While Drogheda may have lost this one on the scoreboard, they won it for a show of character. DROGHEDA BOYS: Jamie Casserly, Shane Campbell, Josh Talabi, David Chrobocinski, Chris Darga, Terence Tientcbeu, Josef Bergin, Sean Tighe, Adam Courtney, Bradley Abbedeen, Cian King.
