Impressive medal haul for brilliant Boyne AC

-

ROUND one of the Louth Cross-Country Championships in Darver brought great rewards for Boyne AC members as they scooped four first-place finishes and five gold team medals.

On a tough course the Novice and Even age categories were the first to test themselves against the hills and the elements and Andrew White was the sole senior athlete competing in the Novice Men’s 6,000m race, where he finished a creditable 18th overall in a time of 23:16.

The juvenile races were next, with the U-10 Girls running over an 800m distance. Leading from the outset, Chloe Cooney held true to form to take a commanding win, with sisters Naiya and Tegan Semple also running well.

It was another win for Boyne in the U-12 Girls 2,000m, where distance runner Eimear Cooney showed her talent to take an easy win, with clubmate Sholah Lawrence, running out of age, a close second. With Isabella Garcia in sixth place and Kate Culhane ninth, the girls took home the first-place team medal, and Chloe Hanley also ran well.

There was another first team medal for the Girls U-14s, with Eabha Cosgrove, Meadhbh Nolan, Eadaoin Carroll and Saran Meite finishing fifth, sixth, seven and eighth respectively and great runs also from Ella McLoughlin and Allie Garcia over a tough 3,000m.

In the U-16 Girls race a gruelling 4,000m challenged the athletes, but their hard work paid off as once again Boyne took the first team medals, with a fine third place finish from Lily Cummins, followed by Roisin Kennedy in fifth and Anna Faulkner in sixth.

In the final race for the girls, Cliodhna Nolan had a super run to take second place in the U-18 4,000m event.

In the U-10 Boys race, Tadgh Forde Dunne ran well to finish seventh overall, followed closely by Luca McLoughlin in 10th.

Not to be outdone by the girls, the U-12 Boys also took home the first place team medal in their 2,000m race, thanks to some fantastic performances from Shea O’Donnell - who won the race outright - Lorcan Forde Dunne (out of age in third), and Alex Robertson - also out of age in fifth. Emmet McEvoy and Sean Cummins made up the team, finishing in eighth and ninth places respectively.
