Dunleer produce the goods in cross-country

ON a superb day for cross-country running at DkIT, Dunleer AC produced the goods yet again - including an Under-9 boys and girls double!

Cliodhna Reilly and Cormac Greene got the day off to a perfect start with outstandin­g wins in that Nugent battled it out over the rough terrain, with Culhane taking the win, followed closely by Nugent in second. Ben Hughes had a great race to finish sixth in his first outing for the club, while Caelan Quinn and Max Kinsgton also ran well and secured team gold for the boys.

With the distance jumping to 4,000m, the Boys U-16s made it look easy as Christian Quinn took third place, followed closely by Killian McLoughlin in fourth.

Tadgh Everitt Thompson ran a great race in the U-18 Boys 6,000m, finishing in a fine fifth place overall. age group, while there were two podium finishes in the Under-11 races, with Dáire Matthews second for the boys and Sally Sheridan third girl.

In the Under-13 Girls race Dunleer AC had a one-two finish, with winner Erinn Leavy and Rebecca Baldwin the class acts, followed by teammate Lucy Sheridan who was a fighting fourth. Matthew Fitzpatric­k ran very well in the Under-13 Boys and in the Under 15 race James Russell was third, leading Dunleer home to team glory.

Under-17 Neasa Reilly had a great run over the Ladies 4km course to finish second in her category, while it was team bronze for the Under-17 Boys, thanks in no small part to Peter Meegan who finished second individual.

Nicola Courtney was fourth in the Intermedia­te race, leading her team home, while Patrick Fitzpatric­k finished fifth and led the fast-finishing men’s team home to third place.

Dunleer AC said that hosts North East Runners deserve great credit for producing a lovely course. Whist League
