This is week three of the turkeys and it will be an 18 nett competition - times of play Friday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 9.30am and 2pm. OUR Lady’s College teams won two out of three games at the start of the new schools basketball season.

First into action were the Under-19 Senior A side who travelled to Drumcondra to take on Maryfield College and came away with a 36-12 victory.

From the start they looked strong and Oyin Adelegan scored five out of 10 points in quarter one, while keeping the home side to a single basket.

Quarter two was a similar affair, with captain Aoife Howard controlling the game from the point as Our Lady’s increased their advantage to 19-6. Eimear Clarke, Garoa Villaverde and Lindsey Eriamietor were all prominent in the latter stages and with several players to return from injury, this team will improve as the season progresses.

On Friday, St Mary’s from Baldoyle made the journey to the Boyneside. First out onto the floor was the Under-19 Senior B team and it proved a tough start for the hosts, who found themselves 14-2 down at the mid-way point, with Catherine Grey their only scorer.

They regrouped in the second half and matched their opponents basket for basket, eventually losing out 23-11.

The second team to take on Baldoyle, the Under-16 Cadette B Division 2 team, were straight out of the blocks, with Caoimhe Kearney scoring from the tip-off.

They led 6-2 at the first break but a blistering second quarter saw them stretch their advantage to 20-4. Captain Benita Assoua was leading by example with some excellent defensive blocks and scoring at the other end also. Kaylin Nugent and Bronagh Lane were tenacious in defence and the score of 32-13 reflected a tremendous effort.
