THEY say it can be hardest to be a prophet in your own land, but local poet Ciaran Hodgers received a warm welcome when he returned to Drogheda to launch his debut collection in the Droichead Arts Centre.

Scores of friends, fans and family members gathered on Saturday October 6th to hear a Spoken Word performance from Ciaran, as well as a myriad of guest artists.

Ciaran’s book ‘Cosmocartography’ has been described as a sweeping exploration of home, the universe, identity, creativity and activism, and he received a positive reaction from all who attended.

“This weekend has been a gift,” he said after the gig.

“I’ve had the pleasure of spending the books’ launch weekend with the finest of folk, my wonderful family, my ever-loving friends and the excellent company of Rose Condo, Kieren King, Monday Ni Cure Laura Bailèy and of course, the surprise presence of Sebastian Irving, Craig Anderson, Adam Sabatti, Hannah R. Willow, Tess Cooper and Elke Lowe.”

He added a big thank you to everyone who went to the launch, near and far, and for being present for it.

“I know I sound like an old fool, but it means the world. There’s a whole ball of love and support that I’m holding now that I don’t quite know what to do with, but whatever I do I want to give it back, to reciprocate somehow,” added the son of well-known musician Gerry, who also played at the launch.

“The feeling bolstered me for my first London gig of the tour the next day. I’ve looked up to Out-Spoken for years now, and genuinely can’t believe I have the support of them in such a wealth.”
