Remembering Sean Cromwell

-

O’DWYERS’ GAA club celebrated their centenary year on by hosting a very successful U/11 blitz at Bremore Park All-Weather pitches.

The inaugural Sean Cromwell Memorial Tournament attracted clubs from both Dublin and Meath and saw eight Go Games matches run off in sunny conditions.

Co-hosted by O’Dwyer’s and St. Patrick’s GAA club in Stamullen, the blitz also saw St Maurs from Rush, Simonstown from Navan and St. Peter’s from Ballyboughal take part in some outstanding games in front of a huge crowd.

“The idea behind the tournament was to give local clubs the chance to take on teams from a different county in a non-competitive environment,” said O’Dwyer’s Paul Mulvey.

“We played a few challenge games against St. Patrick’s over the year and built up such a good relationship that we decided to organise this between us and we hope to alternate it between Balbriggan and Stamullen going forward.”

Sam Maguire was also on hand to join in the celebrations, and the All-Ireland winner’s trophy was very popular with players and parents alike afterwards.

“I wanted to organise something in memory of my dad, who died suddenly this time last year,” explained Gerard Cromwell of St. Patrick’s.

“I used to play with O’Dwyer’s before moving to Stamullen and helping out with the coaching at St. Pats, so the whole thing tied in brilliantly with their centenary this year. The games and skill levels on display today were fantastic, the weather was great and the kids really enjoyed it. We’ve had great support from both Meath and Dublin county boards and great feedback from the teams involved, so hopefully we can build on this for next year.”
