Revenge so sweet for hungry Curraha

VINCENTS/CURRAHA 2-15 KILLARY EMMETS 1-11

CONOR MORIARTY scored 1-8 as St Vincent’s/Curraha gained revenge for last year’s final defeat when overcoming Killary Emmets in the Under-21A FC at Rathkenny on Sunday.

This was a closely fought affair for most of the hour, with just the minimum between the sides following a Killian Price point on 56 minutes. However, the Syddan/ Castletown combination were unable to add to their tally after that and the eventual winners pressed home their superiority, adding 1-3 for a flattering seven-point victory.

Killary played with the advance of the breeze in the opening half and led following Ben Blakemore’s goal on eight minutes. After earlier hitting three points, Moriarty struck for a brilliant goal to level the sides at 1-4 each on 21 minutes.

Patrick McGill edged St Vincent’s/Curraha in front before Padraic Dillon’s point left the sides level at 1-5 each at half-time.

Blakemore had an opportunity of a second goal late in the half but was denied by Luke McCarthy’s fine save.

Three quickfire points from Moriarty had his side ahead within two minutes of the restart. St Vincent’s/ Curraha managed to maintain that lead throughout the third quarter, with McCarthy again coming to their rescue, this time denying Killian Price.

That lead extended to four points following an effort from midfielder Brian Murphy on 54 minutes. Killary responded with two pointed frees

from Mark Kelly and one from play by Price.

Jack O’Connor doubled his side’s lead before sub Eoghan Corry left three between the teams on the hour mark. O’Connor’s goal a minute into added time put the issue beyond doubt and Andrew Battersby added another point before the finish.
