Highlanes hosts mid-term workshops
BOOKING has just opened for Highlanes Gallery’s much sought-after Children’s Workshops, the next series taking place during the school mid-term.
Workshops at the gallery are process-based and explore basic concepts and ideas with children as they are looking at the artwork. The emphasis is placed on understanding the ideas surrounding the objects. Making objects forms part of that process but is not the only goal of the workshop.
This series of four workshops focus on Theresa Nanigian’s ‘just a bit extraordinary’ exhibition which is comprised three ‘chapters’ in which the artist has chosen an equal number of idiosyncratic groups: adolescence, adulthood & older age & has surveyed the expression of identity across this lifespan throughout these three chapters. Developed for children aged 5-13 years, Join facilitator Julie Duhy for ‘Sidewalk Circus: Sugar Skull Mask-Making’ on Wednesday 31st October, and in response to the eclectic mix of collectibles displayed within the ‘Merchandise Museum’, children will make their very own ‘Sugar Skull Mixed-Media Masks’, using a variety of materials and have extraordinary fun decorating their ‘Dia de Los Muertos’ Sugar Skull Masks with crepe flowers, foam shapes and jewels.
Later on in the week on Friday 2nd November children can join artist Claire Halpin for ‘Extraordinary Me! Remember Me’, Friday 2nd, exploring all that is ME through using drawing, words, memories, construction and collage to create an ‘ExtraordinaryBox’, and also some jumping around the gallery to create a mini video. Workshops are charged at €8 per child and sessions are morning and afternoon on each day, 11.30am1.00pm, and 2.00pm-3.30pm and can be booked on Eventbrite.
