2018 Drogheda Bridge Congress is another great success story
THE 25th Drogheda and District Bridge Congress took place in the Westcourt Hotel and the new ABCD bridge centre in the Fairgreen.
It was a great success with bumper entries in all grades. There were visitors from all over Ireland and abroad and even as far away as Turkey so we really have gone international now.
They were all very impressed with the town, it’s history, it’s shops and restaurants and the friendliness of everyone.
The weekend kicked off with the Congress President Heather Kilkelly, the Mayor Frank Godfrey, the President of the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland, the President of the Irish Bridge Union, The Chairperson of the Northern Ireland Bridge Union and the President of the North Eastern Bridge Union all saying a few words and welcoming everyone to the Congress. There were bridge competitions over the weekend for all the grades and plenty of local participants featured in the prize giving.
To mark the 25th anniversary there was a great social night on Saturday with complimentary tea and sandwiches.
Eugene Ginty gave a brilliant performance and this was followed by dancing with Mary Gantly. A great night was had by all.
The main events of the Congress were held in the Westcourt Hotel and Valerie and her staff looked after everyone very well, our visitors were full of praise for the hotel.
The new bridge centre in the Fairgreen was full to the brim on Saturday and nobody could fail to be impressed with it as a venue for the Congress.
PRO Philina Dowd says the organisers would like to thank all sponsors without who they could not run the congress, also everyone who participated and now the planning starts all over again for the 26th Congress in October 2019.
