Is Jane’s the earliest Christmas tree in town?

-

THE Wizzard song goes ‘I wish it could be Christmas everyday’ and that’s certainly true for one woman, who has been putting up her Christmas tree on November 1st for the past 16 years!

Jane Farrell from Newtown Meadows says she simply can’t wait to decorate her house each year, and it’s a struggle to wait until after Halloween.

“I just love everything about Christmas, and at this stage, people are waiting for me to post the photo on Facebook of the tree up in the sitting room, and would be disappointed if I didn’t do it,” she says with a laugh.

“I even get people calling over the night I put it up, to get a quick blast of Christmas, and everyone loves it.”

Jane admits it is definitely her favourite time of year, and It’s not just the day itself, it’s the entire build-up to it she loves.

“I love the cooking, the shopping, the wrapping of presents – everything, and I don’t care if people think I’m a bit mad – it’s my house, and as soon as I have my decorations up, it’s a great excuse for others to do theirs too,” she adds.

“I have the same tree over 14 years now and it’s very special to me, and I’ll start doing a bit more of the house from now until Christmas Eve.”

Jane has a 16-year-old son Josh, who loves to see the tree up early too.

“I’ve been doing it since he was a baby, so he’s well used to it now,” she laughs.

“And the one thing everyone always asks me is do I get sick of it before the big day, and the answer is definitely no! In fact, I leave it up until the 6th and hate taking it down – until next November 1st!”
