Jail or community service for no vehicle insurance

A motorist has been given the option of 240 hours community service instead of five months imprisonme­nt on a charge of driving without insurance.

Evoh Chidi Peter (47), Seaview Grove, Laytown, was disqualifi­ed from driving for 10 years, and his case put back to 1 March next for a report.

The offence occurred at Cord Road, Drogheda, on 5 February last, and the court heard the defendant has previous conviction­s.

Solicitor Dermot Monahan said his client has no car and travels to work as a security man in Dublin where he earns €300 per-week.
