Medal joy for Boyne athletes

-

BOYNE AC were represented in all the age groups and duly came away with gold and silver medals from Sunday’s Athletics Louth Juvenile Cross-Country Relays in the new Drogheda & District grounds at Newtownstalaban.

Always an exciting day, this one did not disappoint. Thankfully the conditions stayed dry and on a challenging 500m course Boyne’s U-10 Girls team of Allie Fennell, Chloe Cooney, Naiya Semple and Bonnie Hegarty got the ball rolling by winning their event.

Boyne’s second U-10 Girls team of Kate O’Donnell, Danielle Maples, Lauren Faulkner and Shruti Prasad all ran well but were unlucky to miss out on a medal.

The Under-10 Boys - Luca McLoughlin, Calum Byrne, Cormac McEvoy and Tadgh Forde Dunne - all ran super legs and were awarded second-place team medals for their efforts, as were the U-12 Girls team of Kate Culhane, Sholah Lawrence, Isabella Garcia and Eimear Cooney.

The Under-12 Boys led from the outset thanks to strong runs from the dynamic quartet of Lorcan Forde Dunne, Alex Robertson, Shea O’Donnell and Emmet McEvoy, while it was silver for the U-14 Girls thanks to the combined efforts of Eabha Cosgrove, Saran Meite, Meadbh Nolan and Eadaoinn Carroll.

The Under-14 Boys faced some tough competition but, undeterred, they gave it their all to finish first across the line - a great win for Neil Culhane, Danny Nugent, Ben Hughes and Paddy Price.

Finishing off the day, Andrew White ran well in the Senior Men’s 10k race.

Also in action recently were some of Boyne’s senior athletes who took on the Dublin Marathon, with fantastic results from all. First to cross the line after a tough 26.2 miles was Angela Kearney in a super time of 3:32:49. Running partners Nicky Veale and Sarah Jane Ruddy both knocked a whopping 16 minutes off their 2017 time to get under the coveted four hours, both finishing in 3:58:19, while clubmate Yvonne Cahill was delighted with her 4:16:18 time. Karen Fairclough ran a great time of 4:28:42, while on their marathon debut Mairead Hallinan and Eimear Rickard were all smiles as they finished in a fine 4:53:27.
