Another sweet win for impressive 16s
BOYNE NAVAN 40 19
FOR the second time in less than a month, Boyne proved too strong for local rivals Navan, this time in the Leinster League at Shamrock Lodge last Saturday afternoon.
Facing into a strong wind in the first half, Boyne needed to control the ball and be patient when the opportunities came to attack the Navan line.
Their first chance came when Marcu Maruhin turned over a Navan ruck and quick hands from the backline released Alex Hanratty to touch down, with Euan Canniffe converting.
Boyne were in again soon afterwards when a strong scrum and set-piece move found full back Calum Stereo who outpaced the Navan defence to put his team 12-0 up.
Navan responded with a break off a ruck to score under the posts, but just before halftime Alan Foley found space and his quick feet were again too much for Navan. Again Canniffe converted to leave it 19-12 at the break.
Boyne came out in the second half all guns blazing and tries by Stereo, Foley and Hanratty, along with conversions by Canniffe, put the game beyond doubt before Navan got over for a late consolation try.
